Brady Captures $75K USTA Pro Circuit Title; Polansky Tops Quiroz to Win Tampa Futures; Swan, Hossam Head Fields as ITF Grade 1 in Santa Croce Begins

Jennifer Brady defeated Taylor Townsend today in the final of the $75,000 USTA Women's Pro Circuit tournament in Indian Harbour Beach, Florida, collecting her third singles title on the professional circuit and the first above the $25,000 level.  Townsend had clinched the USTA 's French Open Wild Card Challenge by reaching the final, so Brady's 6-3, 7-5 win wasn't of any significance on that front, but it was certainly meaningful for the 21-year-old former UCLA Bruin.  Just four months into her first full year on tour, she has now reached a career-high of 147 and will head to French Open qualifying with great confidence.

The doubles title in Indian Harbour Beach went to No. 2 seeds Julia Glushko of Israel and Alexandra Panova of Russia, who beat Jessica Pegula and Maria Sanchez 7-5, 6-4.

On the other side of the Sunshine State, No. 7 seed Peter Polansky of Canada took the title at the $10,000 Tampa Futures, beating unseeded Roberto Quiroz of Ecuador 7-5, 6-3.  Polansky, now 27, hadn't won a singles title since 2013.  Although the 24-year-old Quiroz, who graduated from USC last year, didn't get his second career Futures title, he did pick up another doubles championship, his 13th. Most have been with cousin Emilio Gomez, but in this one it was another Ecuadoran with college experience, Gonzalo Escobar, the former Texas Tech star. Quiroz and Escobar, the No. 3 seeds, beat Jonas Luetjen of Germany and Miomir Kecmanovic of Serbia, last week's Vero Beach Futures champions, 6-4, 7-6(4).

There are no men's USTA Pro Circuit events in the United States until next month, but the women do have a $25,000 tournament next week in Naples, with qualifying underway there. Kayla Day had initially planned to play in the Grade A Italian Open, which starts May 15th, but is instead using a junior exemption to play in Naples this week.

The Grade 1 warmup event to the Grade A in Milan begins on Monday in Santa Croce, with nine US boys and three US girls in the draw.  JJ Wolf is the No. 3 seed, Sam Riffice is the No. 10 seed and Vasil Kirkov is the No. 12 seed.  Unseeded US boys in the draw are Brandon Holt, Oliver Crawford, Gianni Ross, Alexandre Rotsaert, Trent Bryde and Patrick Kypson.  The three US girls in the draw are No. 5 seed Morgan Coppoc, No. 13 seed Taylor Johnson and Abi Altick.

Top seeds are Katie Swan of Great Britain and Youssef Hossam of Egypt. Live scoring is available via tennisticker. I believe there will be live streaming available at the tournament website, where you can also find the order of play for Monday.

The Asia Grade B1 in India is complete, with two 15-year-olds claiming the singles titles. No. 8 seed Naoki Tajima of Japan defeated No. 2 seed Alberto Lim of the Philippines 6-3, 6-1 for the boys title, while Xiyu Wang of China won the girls title with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Pranjala Yadlapalli of India.
