NCAA Men's Sweet 16 Features 14 of 16 Seeds, Including Top Eight; Min Earns Second Straight Title: Addison, Kerznerman Take Plantation ITF Championships

Just as in the women's draw, 14 of the 16 men's teams have advanced to the Sweet 16 in Athens next week.  The only two men's seeds absent are No. 9 Mississippi State and No. 10 Oklahoma, who lost to Baylor and Tulsa respectively, in finals played on Saturday.

In the 11 men's regional finals played today, many of which were delayed by rain, there were no upsets, and USC (1), Virginia (3), UCLA (4) and Ohio State (5) did not lose a point in either of their two wins over the weekend.

There was one match that came down to the last court on, with No. 14 seed Cal defeating Texas Tech 4-3 in Berkeley, with the McLachlan brothers getting points three and four for the Bears with three-set wins.  The only other men's team to earn more than one point today was Michigan, which took the top two singles courts from Ole Miss in Oxford, but fell 4-2 to the No. 13 Rebels in a rain-delayed match.

The men's pairings for Friday's Round of 16, with seedings in parentheses:

Southern California (1)
Illinois (16)

Baylor
Duke (8)

Ohio State (5)
Florida (12)

Ole Miss (13)
UCLA (4)

Virginia (3)
Cal (14)

Stanford (11)
Kentucky (6)

Pepperdine (7)
Tulsa

North Carolina (15)
Georgia (2)

The draw is available at ncaa.com.

Today in Raleigh's $25,000 Pro Circuit tournament, Grace Min won her second consecutive event, defeating No. 3 seed Tammy Hendler of Belgium 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.  That first set in today's final was the only set the fifth-seeded Min lost in the tournament.  When the points are added from this week's win next Monday, Min will be comfortably in the Top 200.

The Raleigh draw is available at the Pro Circuit page at usta.com.

At the ITF Grade 4 in Plantation, Breaunna Addison and Dan Kerznerman picked up the singles titles. The unseeded Kerznerman beat No. 14 seed Rolando Torrellas of Venezuela 6-2, 6-1 in today's final for his first ITF singles title. The 16-year-old did not drop a set all week.  The boys doubles title went to unseeded Eduardo Nava and Javier Restrepo of the USA, who beat the sixth-seeded team of Dylan Nunez of the USA and Alan Nunez Aguilera of Mexico 6-3, 6-7(5), 10-8.

Addison swept both the singles and doubles titles without dropping a set in either draw.  The No. 3 seed beat  Stefania Hristov of Romania, the No. 4 seed, 6-1, 6-2 in the singles final. It was Addison's second ITF title; she won a Grade 5 in the Bahamas last fall.  In the girls doubles final, Addison teamed with Rasheeda McAdoo, and the No. 2 seeds defeated No. 4 seeds Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai of Thailand and Daria Sharapova of Belarus 6-2, 6-1. Addison and McAdoo lost only 12 games in their five doubles wins this week.

The complete Plantation results can be found at the Player Development ITF page at usta.com. The third leg of the ITF junior spring clay circuit in Florida is at Delray Beach this week. The qualifying is complete and the draws and order of play are available here.
