ITA Men's Indoor All-Tournament Team Slideshow; Radford Receives NCAA Probation; UCLA Women Edge Cal; Singh Wins Futures

The ITA released the Men's Team Indoor all-tournament team yesterday, with champion Southern California taking five of the nine slots. Photos of the all-tournament team are in the slideshow below. If you missed my recap of the men's tournament, it's available at the Tennis Recruiting Network.

The NCAA announced yesterday that Radford University's basketball and men's tennis teams were put on two-year probation. The bulk of the enforcement concerns the basketball team according to this release, but if you want to read how giving a tennis player a ride to a basketball game constitutes a major violation of NCAA rules, you'll need to read the complete Public Infraction Report. It doesn't appear the tennis team will suffer any consequences, as a two-game suspension of the coach has already taken place. He will be required to attend NCAA compliance seminars at his own expense this year and next year.

In dual matches between Top Ten teams this week, Women's Indoor champions UCLA, ranked No. 3, rebounded from a 3-1 deficit against No. 5 Cal to post a dramatic 4-3 win over the Bears in Los Angeles yesterday. It was a tough loss for Cal, but they can take some solace in the fact that their top player, senior Jana Juricova, didn't compete, and they still won at the No. 1 singles position, with Zsofia Susanyi beating Robin Anderson 6-3, 6-4. Pam Montez clinched for the Bruins at No. 3 singles, beating Anett Schutting 3-6, 7-5, 6-2.

In men's Top Ten, No. 2 Ohio State and No. 7 Kentucky had a fantastic match at the Men's Indoor last Saturday, with the Buckeyes getting a 4-3 win when Ille Van Engelen beat Tom Jomby at No. 4 singles 7-5 in the third. This afternoon's rematch, held in Columbus, wasn't nearly as close, with Ohio State taking it 4-0, via the doubles point and wins from Blaz Rola, Devin McCarthy and Connor Smith. Ohio State's home winning streak, the longest in all NCAA Division I sports, now stands at 136.

In a couple of other women's dual matches of note Friday, No. 6 Georgia barely got by No. 43 Memphis 4-3 in Athens, and No. 16 Georgia Tech picked up a 5-2 road win over No. 9 Northwestern.

Visit the ITA results page for scores of other dual matches.

Last week former Virginia all-American Michael Shabaz won a Futures event in Guatemala, this week his teammate Sanam Singh picked up a singles title at the Futures in his hometown of Chandigargh India. The unseeded Singh didn't drop a set, beat the No. 1 and No. 4 seeds, and in the final defeated N. Sriram Balaji, also unseeded, 7-5, 6-3. Former Alabama standout Saketh Myneni won the doubles title at the same tournament, partnering Rohan Gajjar, also of India.

It was indeed 4-0 OSU, however, the remaining matches were all close, easily could have been 4-3.
