Pan-American Closed Wild Cards Announced; Tennis Recruiting Reveals Top Prospects for 2010-11; So. Carolina Upstate Coach Resigns Amid Investigation

The USTA has released the names of the players who have received wild cards to compete in the ITF Grade B1 Pan-American Closed, which begins on October 11. They are, in alphabetical order:

Luca Corinteli
Tyler Gardiner
Mitchel Knight
Thai Kwiatkowski
Nikko Madregallejo
Marco Nunez
Spencer Papa
Michael Redlicki

Meghan Blevins
Hannah King
Spencer Liang
Madeline Lipp
Kyle McPhillips
Stephanie Wei

Redlicki and McPhillips are the reigning UTA National 16s champions. Corinteli, Gardiner, Kwiatkowski, Madregallejo, Papa and Redlicki were initially accepted into qualifying. For the initial acceptances, see the ITF junior site.

This week's U.S. ITF tournament is a Grade 4 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Only 46 girls entered the 64-player field, so there was no qualifying, but there was qualifying for the boys main draw. For some reason the seeds are not showing up on the TennisLink site, but the draws are available there.

It is a big day at the Tennis Recruiting Network, with the top prospects for the 2010-2011 school year revealed. There is always movement during the year, and TR Net has announced that it will update the rankings again in the spring, so players are able to move up, or down, more frequently than once a year. The Spartanburg Herald-Journal reported last week that Alessandro De Marzo, who coached both the men's and women's tennis teams at University of South Carolina Upstate, resigned last month. The university's athletic department is conducting an internal investigation into the program, according to this story.
