Women's Team Indoor Wrap; Men's Indoor Begins Friday in Seattle

My weekly post for the Tennis Recruiting Network is my summary of the Women's Team Indoor last weekend in Madison. Although I'm not a big fan of indoor tennis, there's no denying there were great matches and story lines throughout the weekend, just as there were last year at the Men's Team Indoor in Chicago.

This year the men are in Seattle, where the University of Washington is hosting, as it did in 2006. The draw has been released (unlike the women's tournament, the men are seeded 1-16) and eight matches will be played tomorrow, beginning at 11 a.m. Eastern at two different sites. For the tournament website, which this year will include a blog and chat, click here. Free live streaming video is also available through the site, as it was in 2006. College tennis expert Austin has filled out his bracket (I'm going to re-post his comment below), and invite anyone willing to fill in a name (no url required) to pick the finalists.

Based on the draw I will go with the following:

1st Round
UVA over PSU, 4-0
UCLA over ND, 4-1
Bay over OkSt, 4-1
Miss over UNC, 4-0
OSU over Boise, 4-0
USC over Ill, 4-3
Texas over Bama, 4-3
UGA over Wash, 4-0

Quarterfinals
UVA over UCLA, 4-2
Miss over Bay, 4-3
OSU over USC, 4-3
UGA over Texas, 4-2

Semis
UVA over Miss, 4-2
UGA over OSU, 4-3

Finals
UGA over UVA, 4-3

I dont think there really is a clear or overwhelming favorite, which should make it extremely competitive from the quarters on.

I think its pretty unlikely that UGA will beat UVa. Let's just assume Georgia wins doubles. UVa is basically automatic at #1 with Devvarman and #6 with Barrick over Varela. Huey is just as good as the injured Flores (who he beat indoors last year and had a 3rd set DNF at the NCAAs). Huey's a clear favorite over Hunt at #3. That's 3 singles for UVa there. A healthy Inglot beats Schnugg (he's already beaten Helgeson indoors). Let's say Inglot is not 100% and loses. That means Garrapiz has to beat Singh and Vitulli has to beat Shabaz (who has been struggling). Don't think both will happen.
If UVa wins the doubles, the odds are tremendously stacked against the Dawgs.

Just like UGA last year, you have to win the doubles against UVA to have a chance, b/c it's very very difficult to win 4 singles.

With that (jinx) now in a post, now watch somebody else like OSU or Ole Miss win the whole thing

How about the Cowboys beating Baylor without dropping a set in the singles. They should be in the top 10 again shortly. Congrats and good luck.

Which OSU? Oklahoma State gave Baylor a pretty good beating today in singles
