Junior Davis, Fed Cup Teams Chosen

Amid all the hustle and bustle of the first few days of a junior Grand Slam, I did manage to track down the USA's 16-and-under teams for the competitions that are held in Reggio Emilia, Italy at the end of this month.

The boys team consists of Frank Carleton, Lawrence Formentera and Bo Seal. (Before the comments start flooding in, Sandgren was asked and declined.) USTA High Performance coach Martin VanDaalen is the team captain.

The girls team will be Lauren Embree, Asia Muhammed and Coco Vandeweghe, with HP coach Richard Ashby serving as the captain.

Did Evan King decline as well?

Why didn't they choose Rhyne Williams?

what about britton and harrison formeantea i dont think he is that great

James Seal is solid all the time. Lawrence Formentera is o.k. but questionable. Frank Carleton is downright puzzling. Did Chase Buchanan, Devin Britton, Ryan Harrison,Rhyne Williams or Alex Domijan get asked? Does anyone know? If not why weren't they? If so why would they turn it down? The girls seem strong but the boys look pretty weak. If we are going to spend the money to send teams to these events why not send our best? Is it because of politics as usual or what?

Ryan Harrison is a 1992, as is Evan King. The USTA sends 16 year olds to this competition. I don't know about the others, but Devin Britton was not asked.

Why was Britton not asked and with King and Harrison being better than Carleton and Formentera for sure and at the least as good as Seal why would you not send your best players even if they are '92s after all aren't we trying to win. Would love to know about Buchanan, Williams and Domijan as well.

did they ask emmett egger? since he received a qualie wild card, he obviously have been a strong addition to our junior davis cup team.

nice girls team. they must have also considered melanie oudin and gail brodsky. rhyne williams is the glaring absence. suspect he must be focusing on his career development and the trip to italy wouldn't be the most productive use of his time.

they should of asked allie will to go she has been doing really well

As for the boys, Rhyne Williams should have played with all the $$$$ his has gotten from the USTA. When they give $$ you sign a contract that you will be available for all US team events when ASKED. Also, why did they ignore Domijan and Britton, both have stronger results than Lawrence Formentera or Seal. I can almsot understand Seal even though his game is more of that of a retriever he has been topped ranked since the 12s, but Formentera, seems like he is the USTA flavor of the month.

That still doesn't explain why Evan King and Ryan Harrison wouldn't be asked even if they are '92s. If we sent our best team we would send Rhyne Williams in singles and play Chase Buchanan or Ryan Harrison as well and put Devin Britton and Ryan Harrison in doubles. That would be a team that would be hard to beat.
